VI. Dramaturgy

 

Subject matter/extracts, texts, and concepts for different media (genres) will be considered for prizes.  

 

1. Categories

  • Amateur authors (children, young people, adults)
  • Trainee authors/dramaturges (including those still studying) and professional authors/dramaturges

2. Media (genres)

The primary focus is on subject matter, extracts, texts and concepts particularly aimed at children and young people.

A convincing concept is aimed for in the following media (genres); there are no restrictions on the linguistic form:

  • Fiction - synopsis (outline) for a novel, story, short story, poetry,
  • Short film (screenplay, synopsis),
  • Feature-length film (synopsis, fully prepared section of the screenplay/scene from the screenplay),
  • TV series (concept),
  • Play (synopsis, prepared section/scene of the play),
  • Board of computer game (concept and scene from the game),
  • (Internet) comic (concept and excerpt)

3.a. Form

The following may be submitted:

  • Manuscripts: synopsis, concepts (maximum 5 pages in length),
  • Sequences, scenes, extracts from plays and films including formulated dialogues (maximum 15 pages in length), 
  • Short film screenplay including formulated dialogues (maximum 15 pages in length)

3.b. Formats

  • Text in PDF format
    or
  • Audio file in MP3 format, no longer than 5 minutes long. File size: max. 1 GB in broadcast quality

3.c. Topics

Participants can select as many topics as they wish.

The topics outlined below are intended as a stimulus to engage the participant with the main idea of the contest, according to which the concept of “violence” encompasses both mental and physical violence.

VI.1.  The young, innocent (incidental) hero
and /or

VI.2.  Tension, but without violence
and /or

VI.3.  Ideas against violence
and /or

VI.4.  Conflict resolution involving humour
and /or

VI.5.  Ideas against harassment/bullying
(e.g. in schools, among children and young people, in everyday life, in public, in child rearing)
and /or

VI.6.  Detailed concept for performing or filming a play
(based on any play from antiquity to Brecht),
e.g. a selected scene with cut script,  with detailed reference to the content and realisation and a text version with notes on space or performance venue, etc.
and /or

VI.7. Free topic
For VI.7. participants can submit work which addresses the main idea of violence prevention in a different way to those described above.

 

4. Conditions of participation 

  • Submissions (PDF or MP3 file) must be uploaded to the digital database by participants,
  • An English translation must be provided for every work submitted with German spoken or
    written dialogue and vice-versa (in the event of an award/recognition, the translator will be included),
  • In the event of winning a prize/a special recognition, participants must provide a CV,
  • Participants must also complete a separate entry form in writing to enter the competition,
  • The organisers’ decision is final. There is no recourse to legal action.

 

Closing date for entries: 10 July 2013

We recommend uploading works to the database at least four days before the closing date
and mailing the written entry
form (PDF) in good time.
